A sting engineered by British tabloid newspaper the News of the World has placed pressure upon the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take strong action against corruption involving the Pakistan cricket team. It has also raised new suspicions over the results of the recent Australia v Pakistan Test series in Australia, especially the remarkable Sydney Test in which Australia recovered from a seemingly impossible position, and comes at the end of a long series of disturbing incidents involving Pakistan cricketers.

These incidents include the mysterious death of a team coach, cases of ball tampering, a forfeited Test match and suspensions due to the taking of performance enhancing drugs.

Pakistan Cricketers Caught on Secret Videotape

News of the World released secretly taken videotapes of a transaction between an undercover reporter and Mazhar Majeed, a player manager, who accepted 150 000 pounds in cash for knowledge in advance of when no-balls would be bowled in the Fourth Test between Pakistan and England. On tape Majeed was heard to say, "I'm going to give you three no-balls to prove to you firstly that this is what's happening. They've all been organised, okay?"
